A Message From Home

Mission: Mean Green Queen
Location: Passenger Lounge, Pathfinder Station
Timeline: Mission Day 0 at 0524

[Passenger Lounge]
[Pathfinder Station]
[MD0 (Seven Days Ago), 0524 Hours]

Delja was alone. Not so much in the existential sense, of course, as the literal. In these early hours of the morning, hardly anyone was wandering about the transitory areas of the station, meaning he had the entire lounge to himself. Which suited him rather well. It gave him a chance to decompress after his journey through the wormhole and to work on downloading any materials (or messages) he might need for the trip out to Sojourner.

Every so often, he would pause in his skimming of the list on his PADD to look out through the nearby window. It opened onto the adjacent hangar (one of several already in operation aboard the partially completed Pathfinder Station). From where he was seated, he could clearly see a few of the craft that were arrayed on the deck, including a Type 14 labeled Lovelace, which was to be his ride. And, while there seemed to be some activity nearby, he had yet to receive any sort of signal that they were ready for boarding.

A chirp drew Delja’s attention back to the PADD where he saw that a notification had appeared in the upper corner of the display. It was not the signal he had been waiting for, but it was an indication that he’d received another message. In fact, this one had only arrived relatively recently (with the latest transmission packet from the Alpha Quadrant). He tapped the notice, causing it to expand and fill the whole screen with a message…from home.

Dearest Ezhr,

Congratulations on your new assignment! Of course, no one is surprised to hear that you’ve wound up in the Delta Quadrant. Some might balk at the prospect of traveling halfway across the galaxy, but not you. You’ve never had much trouble packing up and relocating yourself to a new place – Vashti, Alpha Centauri, the Federation frontier. As long as you were able to connect with someone, you were good to go.

…and, you know, we never really had a problem with it. You would check in when you could, and there was always the
possibility (even if we didn’t take it) of visiting at some point. A bit harder to do when there’s an entire quadrant between us and you (and then some). Still, we know that you take care of yourself.

So, we hope the journey is going well. Let us know when you get there. (We want to hear all about the wormhole!) And may this be everything you’re hoping for!

Love,

Qeba and Tehra
