"Captain's Log," Kodak began, reaching out to idly stroke the cherry-blossoms-in-miniature of one of his bonsai. He was standing, facing the rows of tiny trees limning the shelves behind his desk. With a practiced hand, he picked up a golden watering can and began the process of hydrating the flora as he began his report. "We've entered the Betreka Nebula, the hiding place of the Chameloids. Assuming, of course," he noted, "the coordinates provided at our last stop are still accurate. There's an uncharted planetary system contained inside the nebula -- a perfect place to avoid the rest of the galaxy at large."
"We'll soon be in orbit of a small jungle moon contained within," the Captain continued, moving to water another of the small arboreals, "where The Path should play out to its end. The instructions I received dictated I beam down to this moon alone but my First Officer would have none of that idea," he smirked to himself, applying the watering can's pointed-tip to moisten the earth of a miniature juniper tree. "As such, Lieutenants Blackstone and Sovaan are gearing up in the Transporter Room, waiting to beam down with me once we arrive."
"As a trio," Kodak explained to thin air, "we'll approach The Place of Skulls -- the meeting place we've been directed to -- and will hopefully meet with representatives of any Chameloids who live there. I've so many questions for them...it's hard to know where to begin. I suppose the logical place to start," he moved to water his tiny oak tree, "is why they've sequestered themselves out here. Why they've become a myth in galactic history rather than active players in it. I can guess at why but only they can say for sure," he nodded to himself. "And then there are the personal questions..." he trailed off, lost in the watering.
"While I'm gone," the Captain -- having finished his watering -- set down the spout and turned back to his desk, "Lieutenant t'Nai will continue efforts aboard the Sojourner, including the ongoing hull repairs and seeing to certain systems that are still not functioning quite right. The crew themselves are still recovering from our run-ins with the drones, with several in need of active physical therapy to fully recuperate. And I think a lot of folks are taking advantage of having Counselor Bracco aboard while Commander Karim is still under light duty restrictions. There's a lot to do up here and I know Emni will keep everyone on task while I'm gone."
"I suppose that's it for now," the Captain said, planning to end the recording. "I'm headed down to the Transporter Room shortly and will report further when I can. In the meantime...Computer," Kodak intoned crisply, "end log."
