Captain Kodak sat comfortably in his chair, leaning back slightly and lifting the ankle of his right leg to rest atop his left knee. It was, perhaps, a more casual pose than some captains might display on their Bridge but, then again, Kodak was a casual kind of captain. Besides, if he was going to the effort of recording yet another log – a task he found banal at best – he was going to be comfortable while doing it. Thus, he assumed his “official” voice and spoke at a volume that wouldn’t distract the busy Bridge officers arrayed around him.
“Captain’s log,” the Chameloid began, his yellow-gold eyes confirming the recording light on his chair’s console. “Our web of probes has gotten a ping on the combadge carried by Kaldri, the Kazon woman we encountered on Shaddam IV. As previously reported, she sacrificed her own safety to lead First Maje Subrek and his incredibly well-armed vessel away from the Sojo. Seems only fitting that we catch up to her and make sure she’s alright.”
“Thanks to star charts procured from Baxter, a one time guest aboard the Sojourner,” the captain continued, “we’ve traced the combadge signal back to an area of space known as The Starbirth Oasis. It’s a fairly volatile stellar nursery,” Kodak enumerated, “but the Sojourner should be able to safely enter the nebula and narrow down our search for Kaldri from there. Our best guess is that she’s using the nursery to nurse her wounds and affect repairs on her ship. I’ve ordered a course set,” the captain said, “and we expect to arrive around this time tomorrow.”
“For now, though,” Kodak leaned back again, unfolding his legs, “I’ve encouraged the rest of the crew to take advantage of the downtime before we reach The Starbirth Oasis. It’s hard to say what will happen once we arrive. For all we know, Subrek and the Kordra-Lisrit will be waiting to blast us out of the heavens. Doesn’t hurt to take advantage of the downtime while we have it,” he concluded. “Computer, end log,” Kodak said, watching the recording light switch off.
