"Captain's log," Kodak began from the center chair, rattling off the stardate. "After successfully traversing the Barzan wormhole and then spending two days at Pathfinder Station, the Sojourner is ready to set out on her first mission in the Delta Quadrant. While the past few months have certainly been a test of our new vessel's mettle, it will be here on the other side of the galaxy where the rubber will really hit the road."

"Starfleet has already given us our first assignment," the Captain intoned, leaning back in his chair. "As a diplomatic quest of sorts, we are setting course to make contact with the Talbeethian Guard: a seemingly amicable race that controls a large swath of space in this region. With the establishment of Pathfinder Station, the Talbeethian Guard wishes to strike up formal relations with Starfleet -- one power to another. Starfleet would very much like us to create the links of friendship if the Talbeethians prove all they seem. Thus we're to travel to their home territory and establish diplomatic contact, with a keen eye for what kind of people these Talbeethians really are."

"My crew has been through a lot these last few months," Kodak said with lament in his voice. "Orion pirates, crazed Klingons, violent drones...it seems like we get into no end of trouble together. But," he nodded, "that's hardly unique to my crew in particular. That's just life in Starfleet, as they say. But I'm hopeful that a peaceful, diplomatic mission will be just what we need to gently dip our toes back into the Delta Quadrant. Our last visit here was certainly...traumatic," he stressed. "It's my hope that we can avoid past dangers and create new hope out here. I'm looking forward to getting out there once again."

"In other news, Ensign Grackle's baby is due in a couple of weeks," the Chameloid smiled, his eyes twinkling. "There's a baby shower for her being held in a couple of days and she's asked if the Senior Staff and our Second Stringers could participate in a game she's running. The Ensign has requested baby pictures from everyone, though I'm not sure of their purpose yet. We don't get to celebrate a lot of these moments together so I've asked everyone to be good sports about participating. Folks seem amenable, which means we're in for some fun, I think."

"Well, I guess that's all for now," Kodak said, his tone indicating the drawing to a close of his commentary. "Computer," he said, "end log."
