Personality & Traits
General Overview | One of the outwardly nicest people one might come across, the expectation that has been placed upon him but his family to uphold the family name has made him something of an expert in managing to hide his honest feelings on most matters. Whilst this had served him well among his patients and those who seek his assistance as it has given him seemingly the perfect bedside manner, he would be a counselor's dream should he ever decide to let one get close enough. This does not mean though that he isn't a genuinely pleasant person to be around but only that he can be a little guarded initially when in social settings with those he doesn't know very well, having also developed a politician-like ability to avoid answering questions when he doesn't want to. Morally straight, there is rarely little doubt in what he believes should be done and has a talent for calmly articulating his point with calmness and intellect. |
Strengths & Weaknesses | A quick and analytical mind. It is very rare that he jumps to conclusions, much preferring to observe, hypothesize and test to ensure the correct conclusion is reached. It also makes him quite ideal in a crisis, remaining calm under pressure. His ability to remain in control of his own feelings often inspires trust in those around him as he is rarely seen to lose control, bringing a calmness to the most chaotic of situations. An almost photographic memory means an ability to find solutions others may miss, able to reference all kinds of obscure case studies and medical precedents. He is a perfectionist. Family pressure to live up to the impossible standard set but generations of serving Wishmores means he holds himself to an absurd standard and a single failure has been known to spiral into quiet self-recrimination. He would at times, sooner work to exhaustion than delegate or rest and underneath the perfect persona his shows is a gnawing fear that he might let the family name down. Emotionally reserved, he was taught growing up composure over expression leading to many people believing him to be a little cold and indifferent, particularly in personal moments and has led to any genuine friendship or romance being rather difficult for him to come by. His curiosity can sometimes eclipse his social awareness. Understanding why something happens can momentarily overshadow the human side of an event, inadvertently prioritizing the study of a rare disease over a crewmate's discomfort. He hides a growing case of impostor syndrome and cannot help but wonder if he really earned his place or whether his name has opened doors that otherwise might've remained shut to him. This regularly drives him to overthink many simple choices. |
Ambitions | Professionally he would very much like to find the solution to one of the many medical mysteries that plague the known galaxy, finding a cure to one of the many chronic and unsolved conditions. He would like nothing more than to be able to step out of the shadow cast by his family, to write his own chapter in their long history of Starfleet service and to be known in those particular circles that care about that sort of thing as more than just the son of his Father. Finally he would like to learn to live beyond a life of duty, finding friendships that are his own and not his family's, and perhaps even love and a family of his own. |
Hobbies & Interests | Theodor enjoys nothing more off duty than to turn on some music - mostly old Earth classical - and write by hand. Many shelves in his quarters can be found containing old leather bound journals stretching back to his medical school days. He also has quite the collection of field medkits with some of the oldest stretching back as far as the NX program right up to the Dominion war and modern times. He is a quite talented musician, playing the Piano, Cello and Guitar although rarely in front of anybody - one of the few activities that draw a shyness from him should anybody happen to be listening. To keep himself in shape he likes to Run, Cycle, Swim and just about anything he is able to do alone where he can turn off his mind for an hour or two and focus on himself. He is also more than happy to cook should time and opportunity allow although this is something he is still working on. |
History
Personal History | Born in New Haven, Connecticut to the ever enduring Wishmore family - a family who could trace their history of Starfleet service back to the days of the NX program, expectation of greatness was ever present in Theodor's life from a young age. His father Admiral Jonathan A. Wishmore and mother Dr. Catherine Wishmore had both served with distinction, the former a famed developer of tactical strategy and latter serving on the Federation medical ethics council for a number of years. His elder brother, the favoured child, had been fast tracked into command whilst his younger sister had found a penchant for engineering leaving Theodor the quiet, introspective middle child. Theodor's education started early, firstly with private tutors and then a preparatory school once he was old enough. Despite the constant quiet pressure to find success, he did in fact thrive in his primary education but rather than seeking out the Starfleet route early and to his father's chagrin (and his Mother's delight), Theodor opted to wait and attended Yale University where he excelled in Xenobiology and comparative anatomy and drew praise from his professors for his precision, empathy and tendency to ask questions. His admission to Starfleet Medical drew plenty of scrutiny from his peers and instructors alike but his academic rigor soon eclipsed his name and he ultimately graduated with honors in Xenopathology and trauma medicine. |
